19 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals from
Bonnie Jensen helped the Ripon College women's basketball team overcome 27 turnovers and post a 59-52 road victory at Cornell College Saturday afternoon.
Â
Aside from Jensen's stat line,
Alison Leslie and
Skyylar Brescia each chipped in with double-figure scoring days. Leslie had 16 points, knocking-down 4 of Ripon's 5 three-pointers in the game, and Brescia had 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals in the win.
Â
Ripon got off to a slow start, trailing by 9 points in the first quarter on two separate occasions, the last of which came with 3:01 left on the clock in the quarter with the score 14-5. The Red Hawks cut their deficit to 4 points over the next minute and a half before the first quarter came to a close with Ripon down, 16-10. The Red Hawks trailed nearly the entire second quarter, with their deficit fluctuating between 8 points and 3 points until their final possession of the quarter. With 6 seconds left on the clock, Leslie drained her second three-pointer of the half to tie the game at 25 apiece.
Â
The Red Hawks again fell behind early in the third quarter, but this time, it didn't take long for them to regain their footing and take just their second lead of the game. Another three from Leslie tied the game at 31-31 and then
Bella Opelt hit two free throws to put Ripon up by two midway through the third quarter. Those points were part of a 14-1 run that gave Ripon a 40-32 advantage with 2:36 left in the frame. Cornell grabbed some of the momentum back over the final two minutes, but Ripon led 42-38 with the fourth quarter remaining.
Â
Ripon led for the entirety of the fourth quarter, expanding their lead from four points to start the quarter to 11 points with 5:37 left to play. Cornell cut the deficit to 3 points twice down the stretch, but Ripon made enough plays and knocked down 4-of-6 free throws to seal the 59-52 win.
Â
Ripon finishes up their two-game road trip with a visit to Beloit College on Tuesday, January 31st. The game is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
