RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon men's soccer program won its third game in a row on Monday afternoon, defeating Concordia College (Minn.) 1-0 at Hopp Stadium.
Jacob Oppeneer connected on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute for the lone score of the match. This was his team-leading eighth goal of the season. The PK was set up by
Eli Dietzel getting fouled hard in the box after putting pressure on the Cobber defense.
Ripon (6-4-5) has collected five shutouts this season, with three of those coming in the last five matches. This ties the most single-season shutouts for the Red Hawks since 2011.
Though Ripon was the only team to find the back of the net, Concordia (4-10-2) made things interesting, continually peppering the Ripon back line to the tune of 11 shots in the first half while holding Ripon to just 2 in the opening stanza.
The second half was more even, but Concordia still outshot the Red Hawks 10-7. The Cobbers even had a shot ricochet off the crossbar but were unable to score and subsequently were shut out for the fourth time this season.
Overall, Ripon was outshot 21-9, but shots on goal were just 6-4 in favor of the Cobbers.
Dietzel led the charge offensively for Ripon with a team-high 3 shots. Oppeneer and
Nick Bellisle each had 2. In total, 24 different Red Hawks saw the field on Monday afternoon.
Drew Seyfer played all 90 minutes in net to record his second consecutive complete game clean sheet. He finished with 6 saves.
Leo Dunor had a match-high 7 shots for Concordia.
