RIPON, Wisconsin – Luke Meinholz of the Ripon men's basketball program had a career-high 26 points as the Red Hawks flew past Lakeland 87-79 on Saturday night inside Weiske Gymnasium.
The 87 points by Ripon (2-9) is the Red Hawks' highest non-Grinnell, single-game total since scoring 96 against Lake Forest on February 27, 2021.
STANDOUT HAWKS
- Junior guard Luke Meinholz scored a career-high 26 points, going 12 of 18 from the floor. He added a career-high 7 steals, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
- Senior guard Cade Tackmier netted 15 points off the bench, adding 3 rebounds and one assist, block and steal.
- Senior guard Clark Cunningham chipped in 12 points, 2 boards and an assist.
- Sophomore forward Kolby Williams scored 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, also tallying a block and a steal.
- Senior guard William Ryan contributed 9 points, 5 rebounds and a steal.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Both teams traded baskets in the early going. A quick 5-0 run by Lakeland (4-5) put the Muskies ahead 9-8, but a Tackmier three put Ripon back in front. After Aiden Polzin gave Lakeland a 13-12 lead, Ripon responded with four consecutive points to pull ahead for good. Once Ripon was ahead 18-17, the Red Hawks ended the half on a 24-12 run, leading by as many as 14 (40-26) and aided by multiple 6-0 scoring runs to hold a comfortable double-digit lead at the break.
Ripon's lead held in double digits for the first seven minutes of the half, though Lakeland slowly tried to chip away at its deficit. A 15-point lead was whittled down to just eight (56-48) with 13:02 remaining, but a 9-1 Ripon run pushed the margin to 16 with 9:28 left. The Red Hawks held their biggest lead of the game, 75-57, with 6:52 left as the game moved out of reach. Lakeland didn't come within single digits again until only 12 seconds remained as Ripon cruised to its second victory of the season.

- Ripon shot a scorching 55.4% from the field (36-65) for a season-high in field goal percentage and field goals made.
- Ripon scored 60 points in the paint compared to Lakeland's 30. The Red Hawks scored all of their points in the second half from either inside the arc or from the free-throw line, not even attempting a three in the final 20 minutes.
- The Red Hawks had twice as many fastbreak points as the Muskies (12-6).
- There were 3 ties and 4 lead changes, but Ripon led for the final 33 minutes and 19 seconds.
- Asanjai Hunter had a team-high 21 points for Lakeland.
