Women's Basketball Extends Winning Streak With Win Over Monmouth

RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon College women's basketball team extended their win streak to 11 games with a 20-point victory over visiting Monmouth College. The Red Hawks defeated the Scots, 69-49, on Alumni Day Saturday afternoon.

Alison Leslie led all scorers with 26 points, shooting 11-of-17 in the win. She also had 5 rebounds, 3 coming on the offensive end, in 32 minutes of action. Bella Opelt registered a 16-point, 4-steal outing, while Skyylar Brescia had 7 points and a team-high 7 rebounds while playing just 16 minutes as she battled foul trouble.

Similar to Friday's win, Ripon opened the game on a significant run, this time scoring the first 8 points of the game before Monmouth got on the board just over three minutes into the contest. The Red Hawks rode that momentum for the remainder of the quarter, and despite Monmouth cutting it to 3 points with 3:15 left in the quarter, Ripon would lead 17-11 after 10 minutes of play.

The Scots cut the Red Hawk lead to 2 points on a couple of occasions in the second quarter, the last coming with 2:11 to play in the half, but again, Ripon had an answer to the Monmouth run and led the Scots by 6, 33-27 at the half.

Ripon nearly pushed their lead to double digits in the early goings of the third quarter, but they couldn't break that barrier. Despite still holding an advantage over the Scots, the Red Hawks needed another late-quarter rally to have their lead be multiple possessions heading into the fourth quarter. Layups by Opelt and Kiana Fall helped make it a 9-point game with 10 minutes left on the clock.

The fourth quarter was when Ripon pulled away. Opelt hit a three-pointer to give Ripon its first double-digit lead of the afternoon and within a few minutes, the Red Hawk lead was at 20 points, 65-45. Ripon extended their lead to 24 points before closing out the 69-49 victory.

Ripon has a few days off before returning to the court on Tuesday, February 14th when the Red Hawks travel to Lake Forest College. The game is set to tip at 5:30 p.m.
