JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Ripon College women's track and field team is in first place after eight events have been scored at the MWC Indoor Championship.
The Red Hawks have 65 points while second-place Monmouth (Ill.) has 46 points. Grinnell is third with 35 points.
The Red Hawks claimed the 1,600m sprint medley title with a mark of 4:21.99, edging Cornell College by less than four-tenths of a second. The quartet consisted of
Jenna Erickson,
Kynaeda Gray,
Payton Rahn and
Jenny Cortes.
Mikayla Flyte won the 5,000m with a mark of 17:50.74, beating her closest foe by eight seconds. Teammate Ali Denamur garnered four points with a fifth-place effort of 18:36.42.
Olivia Miller's effort of 5.58m in the long jump allowed her to win the gold medal and snag 10 points for the Red Hawks.
Natalie Pakosz won the silver medal in the mile with a time of 5:21.48.
Isabelle Willett was fourth with a time of 5:29.88.
The 4x200m relay squad of Erickson, Rahn, Gray and Miller finished fourth after crossing the line in 1:50.13.
Kalyn Otzelberger took home the silver medal in the shot put with a mark of 12.51m.
Arynn Mathieu was fourth (11.53m) while
Cheyanne Saylor snagged a point with an eighth-place finish (10.56m).
The teams return to action tomorrow for the final day of competition.
