Ripon Takes Home MWC Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Ripon College women's track and field team claimed the title at the MWC Championship, which wrapped up Saturday afternoon.

The Red Hawks scored 161 points in the two-day event. Monmouth (Ill.) was second with 115 points in the nine-team event.

Ripon started the day with a victory in the DMR. The quartet of Natalie Pakosz, Devin Ibarra, Isabelle Willett and Mikayla Flyte won with a time of 12:43.32.

Olivia Miller finished second in the 60m hurdles after crossing the line in 9.31. Payton Rahn's time of 1:01.14 was good enough for the bronze medal in the 400m.

The 800m featured a pair of teammates going one-two for the Red Hawks. Jenny Cortes edged out Grace Engebretson for first place. Cortes crossed in 2:26.15 while Engebretson had a time of 2:26.91.

Miller continued her stellar day by claiming the 200m in a time of 26.53.

Flyte turned in another solid performance with a fourth-place effort in the 3000m (10:32.90.

The 4x400m relay team of Miller, Rahn, Engebretson and Cortes legged out a victory in a time of 4:08.76.

In the field events, Arynn Mathieu took home the bronze in the weigh throw (15.64m) while Kalyn Otzelberger was fifth (14.86m).

Caroline Flesch and Bridget Finn garnered points in the high jump. Each recorded marks of 1.46m in the event.

Olivia Miller was named the Newcomer of the Year. For the meet, she won the 200m, long jump, was part of the winning 4x400m team, was second in the 60m hurdles and part of the fourth-place 4x200m relay team.

Head coach Bob Wood was named the Coach of the Year. It marks the second consecutive year he's picked up the honor.

Ripon returns to action March 4 at the Ripon Final Qualifier.
