WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Ripon softball team extended its' win streak to three games on Sunday, picking up a 5-1 victory over previously-unbeaten Augsburg
following a 7-5 defeat of Roger Williams earlier in the day. The Red Hawks have now won three consecutive games and the 4-2 start is the program's best start in more than a decade
After exchanging zeroes for the first two innings, the Red Hawk offense came alive, coupling three hits with a pair of Auggie errors to plate the first three runs of the game.
Mikaela Lawrence tripled in a run two frames later, and
Brennah Bronk followed with an RBI single to push the Ripon lead to 5-0.
The Auggies opened the home seventh with four consecutive singles that resulted in their lone run of the game, but Ripon was able to snap a seven-game win streak and improve to 4-2 on the young season.
Kalen Berger went the distance for the Red Hawks in the circle, delivering more than 100 pitches en route to her first victory of the year.
Lawrence was a tough out all day for Ripon, going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI at the top of the order.
Abby Gilbertson was credited with two RBI in Sunday's finale, and she continues to be a huge threat in the lineup with a team-best .563 average through six games.
Five different Red Hawks have now reached base in five consecutive games, while Gilbertson and
Anna Bauer have both hit safely in the same span. Ripon returns to action with two more games on Monday, with the first pitch of Game 1 against Southern Maine scheduled for 4:30 p.m. EST.
