Baseball's Winning Streak Snapped By Monmouth

RIPON, Wis.- The Ripon College baseball team's seven-game winning streak was snapped this afternoon when the Red Hawks fell 14-7 to visiting conference foe Monmouth College. Ripon moves to 17-12 overall and 12-5 in the MWC while the Scots go to 13-19 and 8-12 in the conference.

After taking an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Monmouth cut the lead in half when it got one of the runs back in the top of the third.

Red Hawk Brock Warren got things rolling in the bottom of the third when he singled to right. He later advanced to second when Evan Olson reached first on a fielding error by the third baseman. Ripon loaded the bases when Kyler Hickman singled to left with no outs.  Following a strikeout, Remington Cox's RBI single to right plated Warren to make it a 3-1 game with bases still loaded. . The Red Hawks took a 4-1 lead when Olson scored off Alex Pankratz's fielder's choice, which sent Hickman to third. Cox was out on the play at second for the second out of the inning Kaleb Burns' infield RBI single to third allowed Hickman to score to push the lead to 5-1 before a ground out back to the pitcher ended the inning.

Monmouth tacked a run in the fifth, six in the sixth, and two in the seventh to take a 9-5 lead on Ripon.

The Red Hawks were able to get a run back in the sixth and eighth to come within two, but the Scots put the game out of reach when they plated five runs in the top of the ninth to go on to win, 14-7.

Caleb Mammoser got the start for the Red Hawks and allowed four runs (all earned) on six hits over the course of 5.1 innings of work. He fanned four in the process.

Burns finished the day going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI. The top hitters in the  Ripon lineup (Cormac Madigan, Cam Stampfl, and Warren) combined going 5-for-12, with three runs scored, three RBIs, three walks, and a home run. Madigan tallied the only extra-base hit out of the three.

Ripon heads out on the road for the next five games with the first stop at the University of Chicago on Wednesday. The first pitch is set for 1 pm.
