Baseball Drops Road Game At Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill.- The Ripon College baseball team dropped a 9-1 loss to the University of Chicago when it traveled to Chicago this afternoon to close out the conference series. The Red Hawks fall to 17-13 on the season and 12-6 in the MWC while the Maroons improve to 18-14 and 11-8 in the conference. Ripon claimed the season series 2-1 when it swept the home doubleheader last weekend against Chicago.

Down 3-0 going into the top of the fourth, the Red Hawks were able to get one of the runs back. With one out, Evan Olson singled to right and took advantage of an error by the right fielder to move up to second. Olson later moved to third when Nick Tenny singled up the middle to put runners on the corners. Tenny later stole second, but the throwing error by the Chicago catcher allowed Olson to score and make it, 3-1. The Red Hawks threaten but were unable to push any more runs across in the frame.

Chicago tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and another in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. The Maroons in the eighth pushed three more runs across the plate to make it, 9-1. Chicago's pitching held Ripon to two base runners (single and walk) over the last five innings to secure the win.

Ripon starter Blaine Wahlen took the loss to fall to 2-2 on the season. He allowed six runs (two earned) on nine hits over the course of four innings of work.

Tenny led the team in hitting as he went 2-for-4 while Kaleb Burns finished with the team's only extra-base hit (double). He finished the day going 1-for-3.

The Red Hawks are back on the road tomorrow at 3 pm. when they travel to Marian University.
