Ripon Plays Well At Midwest Conference Tournament Saturday

PEORIA, ILL. – The Ripon College men's tennis team competed in the Midwest Conference Individual Tournament Saturday.

In singles action Drew Jorgensen dropped a three-set match to Andrew Larson by scores of 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-4. He will play in the consolation finals tomorrow against Ethan Sabotta.

Caleb Sippel picked up a victory in the quarterfinal over Derek Wilkinson by a 6-2, 6-0 score before falling to Wilder Cooke 6-0, 6-3. He will play in the consolation championship against Hikaru Takemura Sunday.

Fifth-seeded CJ Counts notched a 6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles before falling by a 6-1, 6-0 score in the second contest.

Austin Stevens, playing at No. 4, picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Yuming Zhang in the opening match. He lost a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Lucas Willett in the semifinals.

Ty Rondestvedt took part of the No. 5 singles action. No updates were available on the MWC web site yet.

Casey Bryant opened the tournament at No. 6 singles as the No. 4 seed. He garnered a 6-5, 3-6 , 6-4 win over Jonah Friedmann before falling to top-seeded Aiden Klass.

Jorgensen and Sippell combined for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles as the No. 5 seed. The dyad takes on Esztergomi and Klass tomorrow in the semifinals.

The dyad of Counts and Rondestvedt took care of their opponent at No. 2 doubles with a resounding 8-3 victory. They'll take on top-seeded Rudenberg and Daniel in the semifinals tomorrow.

Stevens and Jack Ives earned a hard-fought 8-7 (5) victory at No. 3 doubles. The duo will square off against Knoll and Willett in the semifinals on Sunday.
