BELOIT, Wis.- The Ripon College baseball team dropped the first game of the three-game series 9-5 on the road against Beloit College in Midwest Conference action this afternoon. With the loss, Ripon falls to 9-9 on the season and 5-3 in the conference while the Buccaneers move to 14-5 and 8-0 on the conference.
With both teams tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the fourth, Beloit pushed three runs across on four hits to take a 5-2 lead.
The Red Hawks responded in the top of the fifth when
Evan Olson singled through the left side to keep the inning alive. He later moved to third when
Kyler Hickman singled to second.
Nick Tenny's RBI Double down the left field line plated Olson and sent Hickman to third with two outs. Both Hickman and Tenny later scored when
Remington Cox singled to center to tie the game, 5-5.
Gabriel Zielinski doubled down the left field line to put runners in scoring position for the Red Hawks before a flyout to left ended the inning.
Beloit took the lead for good when it pushed two runs across in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth to take a 9-5 lead. The Buccaneers' pitching shut down the Red Hawks in order in each of the last three innings.
Cox finished the game going 2-for-4 with three RBIs while teammate Hickman tallied a walk, run scored, and RBI while going 2-for-4.
Starting pitcher
Brock Warren took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the season. He scattered 10 hits over five innings allowing seven runs (six earned) while striking out five.
Ripon is back home on Saturday when they host Beloit in a doubleheader to close out the season series with them. The first game is set for 12 pm.
