RIPON, Wis. – The Red Hawk softball team was tripped up in Midwest Conference play on Saturday, falling 9-1 to Grinnell in the opener of a doubleheader before dropping the nightcap by a final of 9-0. Ripon recognized the senior class on Saturday, as well, saying goodbye to the Class of 2023 ahead of Sunday's season finale.
Grinnell scored three runs in each of three different innings in Saturday's Game 1, with
Maddie Hablewitz' RBI single to left in the third serving as Ripon's lone tally of the contest.
Abby Gilbertson picked up a three-hit performance to lead the offense, as the top three in the Red Hawk order combined for seven knocks.
The Red Hawk offense never got in a rhythm in Game 2, while the Pioneers never came off their Game 1 hit parade. Grinnell scored in bunches once again, with the biggest blow coming by way of a four-run third inning.
Five different Ripon hitters picked up a base hit in the finale, with
Mikaela Lawrence extending her hitting streak to a season-high eight games. Hablewtiz has now reached base safely in each of her last 18 games, giving her a new-season best and putting her just two shy of Hablewitz' team-best this spring.
Ripon closes out the 2023 campaign on Sunday, hosting Mount Mary for two games in non-league play. First pitch from Tracy Field is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
