WATERTOWN, Wisconsin – Finley Manning of the Ripon men's soccer program scored his second career hat trick and five different Red Hawks scored to help Ripon defeat Maranatha Baptist 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon for the program's first win of the season.
Manning's three goals were his first goals of the 2023 campaign. He scored two in the first half, in the 34th and 36th minute, and added the third just 44 seconds into the second half.
The Canada native now has two hat tricks in his first two seasons as a Red Hawk. His first three-goal game occurred last season in a 3-1 win against Knox on October 15, 2022.
Jacob Oppeneer opened the scoring with a goal in his second consecutive game, giving Ripon a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. Less than two minutes later,
Christian Millan found the back of the net for the first time this season to double the Ripon (1-0-3) lead.
Like Oppeneer,
Andre Robertson also tallied a goal for the second consecutive match, scoring in the 50th and 59th minutes. He led Ripon with five shots.
In the 63rd minute,
Yazan Mekki, scored his first career goal on an assist from
Thomas Geocaris. This was Geocaris' first point as a Red Hawk. Mekki followed that up with another goal, scoring again in the 65th minute on a feed from
Hashim Khan, who also earned his first collegiate point.
Ripon outshot the Sabercats 10-1 in the first half and 20-3 overall. Shots on goal were 15-1 in Ripon's favor.
Drew Seyfer saw his first career action between the pipes, playing the entire second half and collecting one save.
Sam Jahnke manned the goal for the first 45 minutes.
Eight Red Hawks made their Ripon debuts: Khan,
Jonathan Garcia,
Roman Harris,
Saul Valadez,
Eric Staszak, Casey Walton, Mohamed Abbad and Seyfer.
The Red Hawks' nine goals were their most since September 3, 2014 when Ripon defeated Eureka 8-1 on the road.
