RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon women's soccer program collected its fourth consecutive shutout on Wednesday afternoon, blanking Great Lakes Christian 2-0 at Prairie Field on a beautiful fall afternoon.
Ripon (3-1-1) struck first in the 23rd minute. After the Red Hawks were fouled in Great Lakes Christian (1-3) territory, freshman
Alyssa Klementzos took a free kick and made the most of it, banking a beautiful shot off the left upright and giving Ripon a 1-0 lead in the process. This was her second goal of the season.
In the 56th minute and nursing a 1-0 lead,
Martina Palazzolo had a great scoring chance but was stopped by the goalie before
Jessi Griepentrog cleaned up the rebound to double the Red Hawks' lead. This was the freshman's first collegiate goal.
Griepentrog led Ripon offensively with 4 shots and 3 shots on goal.
Though the Crusaders would have multiple chances in the second half, and even outshot Ripon 14-12 in the match, the Red Hawks' defense held strong to preserve the shutout.
Andreanna Wilke earned her third consecutive clean sheet, tallying 7 saves.
Ripon had 9 shots on goal compared to GLCC's 7.
