RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon women's soccer program bounced back in a big way on Saturday afternoon as the Red Hawks rolled Northland College 5-0 at Prairie Field for their first win of the season.
Three freshmen scored goals for Ripon (1-1), while
Rebecca Roszel posted a two-goal game.
Ripon scored often and early in the first half over Northland (0-2), putting up three goals in the first 30 minutes of the game.
Julia Barger netted the first goal of her collegiate career, scoring unassisted just 8 minutes into the game.
Roszel scored her first goal at the 23rd-minute mark, also finding the back of the net unassisted. Just four minutes later,
Kaley Kowal beat the keeper to give the Red Hawks a 3-0 lead. Her goal was assisted by
McKenzie Wiesner.
Ripon tacked on one more goal in the first half as Roszel got home once again with under four minutes remaining until halftime.
Fellow freshman
Alyssa Klementzos scored unassisted in the 65th minute to wrap up the scoring and give Ripon the shutout win.
Klementzos led the team with 5 shots, while Roszel had four and
Jessi Griepentrog had three.
The Red Hawks dominated the shot column all afternoon, earning 23 shots (11 on goal) compared to the Lumberjills 5 shots (4 on goal).
Andreanna Wilke and
Shelby Pacholke each played a half in goal. Wilke started the game and made three saves, while Pacholke stopped one shot.
