STEVENS POINT, Wisconsin — The Ripon volleyball program held its own against the #3 program in the country on Friday, but fell short 3-0 to UW-Oshkosh inside the Berg Gym on the opening day of the 2023 Pointers Invitational.
 
UWO (15-0) ran its season-opening win streak to 15 with a sweep after set scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-8.
 
It was all Titans in the first set as they held multiple eight-point leads in the early going. Oshkosh's biggest lead was 12 at 19-7. After a brief Ripon (6-7) run, UWO would put the set away soon after to win it by a dozen.

Set two was much of the same as Oshkosh raced out to a quick 10-3 advantage. After Ripon took advantage of a service error which cut the lead to 13-7, UWO scored the next eight points to lead 21-7 and keep the Red Hawks at bay for the remainder of the frame.
 
In the third set, UWO scored 14 of the first 15 points and never looked back en route to putting the match away.
 
Freshman Haylee Kast led Ripon with 3 kills on 19 swings. Emily Braun had 5 assists, while Riley Nielsen and Sam Thrasher led the charge defensively with 6 digs apiece.
 
Ellie Ove had a career-high 4 blocks for the Red Hawks at the net.
 
Between the two teams, UW-Oshkosh held advantages in kills, hitting percentage and aces. Each team had 8 blocks.
 
Brooke Porter led UWO with 8 kills.
 
Ripon stays in Stevens Point for two more matches on Saturday, facing Lakeland at 11 a.m. before rounding out the weekend against Simpson at 1:30 p.m.
