RIPON, Wisconsin— The Ripon volleyball program was defeated 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-10) by Cornell on Saturday afternoon at Weiske Gymnasium, ending a stretch of four consecutive matches inside the Willmore Center.
Cornell (8-11, 1-0 MWC) put Ripon (7-12, 0-4 MWC) in a hole early in set one, scoring seven of the first eight points. The Rams eventually led 15-3 following seven consecutive points, and Ripon never came within nine the rest of the set. A kill and an ace by
Michaela Riege brought Ripon within 22-12, but the visitors scored the next three points to secure the set.
Ripon had a handful of leads in the early going of set two, but a 10-2 run pushed Cornell in front 21-12. Three consecutive points by Ripon brought the Red Hawks within five (23-18), but Cornell scored the last two points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Rams burst out of the gates in set three, scoring the first eight points of the stanza. The Rams led 15-3 before a
Haylee Kast kill stemmed the tide. Cornell never let Ripon come within single digits for the rest of the match, taking set three 25-10.
Ellie Ove and Kast led Ripon with six kills apiece, while
Emily Braun had a team-high 18 assists. Defensively,
Bella Kasuboski had eight digs, while
Alyssa Murry, Braun and Riege all had six.
Cornell had a 42-20 advantage in kills, a 7-4 edge in aces and had 8 blocks to Ripon's 3.
Ripon heads on the road next Friday, October 18 for a 7 p.m. non-conference match at Loras.
