RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon women's soccer program picked up an impressive 3-0 win over Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday night at Hopp Stadium, getting two goals from
Rebecca Roszel and two assists from
Cielo Gutierrez.
Ripon (3-8-3) peppered Maranatha Baptist (5-6) throughout the first half, racking up 16 shots – nine on goal – while not allowing any and playing almost exclusively in the Red Hawks' offensive zone. In the 26th minute, Gutierrez drove down the right side of the pitch, passing the ball to Roszel on the left side of the field. The sophomore drilled a shot off the top crossbar and in to make it a 1-0 game, her second goal of the season.
The Red Hawks added one more in the first half. Gutierrez had a corner kick in the 30th minute that was perfectly bounced off of the MBU goalkeeper, finding the back of the net for the sophomore's first score of 2024.
In the 64th minute, Gutierrez and Roszel teamed up to put Ripon on the board for the final time. Off of another corner kick from Gutierrez, Roszel beautifully tapped the ball into the back of the net for her third goal of the season.
Tuesday marked the second career two-goal game for Roszel, and the first-ever four-point game for Gutierrez.
Ripon recorded a season-high 26 shots, its most since putting up 33 at home against Mount Mary in last season's finale. Roszel led the Red Hawks with seven total shots, while
Sarah Klopp and
Jessi Griepentrog each had three.
Addison Misner,
Martina Palazzolo,
