MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Ripon women's soccer program surrendered a goal with under 15 minutes left in the match on Saturday, falling short at Cornell 1-0 at the Cornell Soccer Field.
Cornell (2-10, 1-3 MWC) got a goal in the 76th minute from Gwen Westervelt, her seventh of the season, and the tally would hold up over the remaining minutes of the match.
Ripon (3-9-3, 0-4-1 MWC) had a slight 10-6 edge in total shots in the match, and had five shots on goal to the Rams' three. The Red Hawks outshot Cornell in each half (4-3 in the first half, 6-3 in the second half).
In a matter of seven minutes in the second half, the Red Hawks had three chances and shots –
Sarah Klopp had a shot that was stopped by the goalkeeper in the 53rd minute, while
Alex Siudzinski and
Alyssa Klementzos both had shots as well.
Alexis Piette had a shot on goal that was saved with under two minutes to play, but the Red Hawks were unable to capitalize and fell on the road.
Klementzos had a match-high three shots, while
Martina Palazzolo tallied two. In addition to Klopp, Siudzinski and Piette,
Juliana Garcia and
Jessi Griepentrog also recorded single shots for Ripon.
Britt Hable played all 90 minutes in goal, recording a pair of saves.
