MONMOUTH, Illinois – The Ripon women's soccer program fell 4-2 to Monmouth on Saturday at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park in the Red Hawks' final road game of the 2024 season.
Monmouth (5-8-3, 3-3-1 MWC) scored the first goal of the game in the 12th minute, opening up an early lead. Shots were 9-6 in favor of the Scots in the first half, and Ripon (4-10-3, 0-5-1 MWC) trailed 2-0 at intermission after the hosts tacked on another goal in the 34th minute.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Monmouth scored its third goal of the afternoon. However, Ripon countered in the 49th minute –
Rebecca Roszel knotted her fifth goal of the season as the Red Hawks made it a 3-1 game.
Roszel continued the offensive push for the Red Hawks, scoring her second of the game – and sixth of the season – in the 52nd minute, bringing Ripon closer with almost a whole half yet to play.
Monmouth picked up an important insurance goal in the 64th minute – padding the Scots' lead to 4-2 – for the final score of the match.
Roszel led Ripon with eight total shots – seven on goal – while
Ashlynn Erickson and
Alex Siudzinski each had two.
Andreanna Wilke and
Britt Hable both saw time in goal for the Red Hawks: Wilke made one save while Hable made three stops.
Ripon had a slight 15-14 edge in total shots, and outshot the Scots 9-5 in the second half. The Red Hawks had 12 shots on goal to Monmouth's eight over the course of the afternoon.
