RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon women's tennis program wrapped up Midwest Conference play on Saturday, losing a pair of 7-0 battles to both Grinnell and Cornell at the Ripon High School Tennis Courts.
Grinnell (6-0, 4-0 MWC) picked up the doubles point early in the morning, taking all three courts against Ripon (1-12, 0-6 MWC) and dropping just five total games in the process. The Red Hawks continued to battle in singles, however – though the Pioneers won all six first sets,
Hadley Berendsen led for a portion of her set on court three, falling in a tight 6-4 frame. Additionally,
Isabella Engstrom had an advantage on court six, but also dropped a close 7-5 set.
Grinnell won all six courts in straight sets to pick up the 7-0 victory.
In the afternoon match, Cornell (7-2, 4-1 MWC) took the doubles point with quick wins on courts one and three, though the Red Hawks put up a fight on court two – unfortunately, Berendsen and
Chase Polyak dropped the court 7-5 as the Rams led 1-0 with singles on the way.
In singles, Cornell clinched the match with straight-set victories on courts one, two and six, though
Allison Pavlovec and Polyak won first sets – 6-4 and 7-6 (2) – on courts five and four respectively.
The Rams finished the afternoon with a straight-set win on court three, and three-set victories on the fourth and fifth lines.
NEXT UP: Ripon rounds out its fall dual slate on Sunday (October 13) as the Red Hawks take on UW-Superior at the Sand Valley Golf Resort in Nekoosa, Wisconsin. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
