Ripon Dominates Lawrence in Season Finale

RIPON, Wisconsin — The Ripon football program ended its 2024 season with a bang on Saturday, throttling Lawrence 41-0 at Hopp Stadium for the Red Hawks' 23rd consecutive win in the series.

Ripon (4-6, 4-5 MWC) got the ball first and started the scoring on the opening drive of the game. Quarterback Brady Immel, making his first career start, shoveled a pop pass to Alex Mosqueda, and the senior scampered in from eight yards out to put Ripon in front. Shane French made the extra point and Ripon was up 7-0 before Lawrence (1-9, 1-8 MWC) touched the ball.

Four plays later, Lawrence quarterback Aidan Williams threw a pass to his left, and Ripon defensive back Nolan Perry picked it off and ran it back 51 yards to the end zone to put Hopp Stadium in a frenzy. Though the extra-point try was botched, Ripon opened up a 13-0 lead not even halfway through the opening quarter.

The teams exchanged punts for the next few drives, but Ripon made the score 20-0 with 8:34 left in the half following an 8-play, 45-yard drive that took up nearly five minutes and ended with a Connor Ramage three-yard rushing touchdown.

On Ripon's last drive of the half, Immel found Bryce Braunel on a third-and-goal from the two-yard line for another score, giving the Red Hawks an impressive 27-0 halftime lead.

After the Red Hawks' defense forced a punt and a turnover on downs to start the second half, Ripon scored its fifth touchdown of the day on a one-yard touchdown plunge from Ramage, capping off a 9-play, 66-yard drive that took up over five minutes of clock.

Following another Viking punt, the Red Hawks scored their final touchdown of the season. Xavier Goetzinger scampered into the end zone from 12 yards out, and McKynzee Schepp connected on her first extra point of the season to round out the scoring. This made it 41-0 with 8:07 left in the game.

The Red Hawks turned Lawrence over on downs inside the Ripon 30 on the ensuing drive and bled the rest of the clock to secure their first shutout of the season, and first since blanking Lawrence 82-0 on November 12, 2022.

Immel had a monster day at the helm of Ripon's offense. He was 8-of-11 for 90 yards and a pair of scores through the air, and also rushed 18 times for 140 yards. In his final game as a Red Hawk, Mosqueda hauled in three passes for 42 yards and a score.

Defensively, Clay Ritschard put a bow on one of the finest seasons any Ripon defender has ever had. He racked up a team-high 15 tackles on Saturday, bringing his season total to 108 – tied for fifth-most in a single season in school history. His 276 career tackles are also fifth-most in school history.

As a team, Ripon had a 358-105 advantage in total yards, and rushed for 260 yards compared to Lawrence's 44 yards on the ground. The Red Hawks had a 36:39 to 23:21 advantage in time of possession, and converted 9-of-14 third downs. Ripon also scored on all five of its red zone chances.
