Volleyball Breezes Past Beloit For First MWC Win

BELOIT, Wisconsin — The Ripon volleyball program picked up its first Midwest Conference win on Saturday afternoon, rolling Beloit 3-0 (25-6, 25-15, 25-12) inside Flood Arena.

Ripon (9-16, 1-6 MWC) showed no signs of rush Saturday after a tough loss Friday and a nearly four-hour bus ride back to Wisconsin. The Red Hawks scored seven points in a row after Beloit (4-20, 0-7 MWC) scored the opening point of the match, and led 18-3 just moments after the match began following a 7-0 run. The Red Hawks scored six of the last seven points in the stanza en route to its most dominant set of the season, hitting a blistering .464 in the opening frame.

Beloit took multiple early leads in set two, but an 8-0 Ripon spurt turned a two-point deficit into a six-point advantage. The Bucs rallied to make it a three-point game at 15-12 following back-to-back points, but Ripon responded with the next four points and finished off the set on a kill from Alyssa Murry soon after.

The Red Hawks took an 11-1 lead into the middle portion of the third set, and the opposition never got closer than nine the rest of the way. Ripon finished off the sweep with four consecutive points, including an emphatic block by Sophia Brinker and Evelyn Dominguez Trujillo on match point, to pick up a win in its final road match of the 2024 season.

In a balanced offensive effort, Nickie Shaw and Makenna Harren both had a match-high seven kills, while Lainie Heizler tallied six. Emily Braun recorded 22 assists, and Michaela Riege had a team-high 13 digs.

Ripon totaled 36 kills, allowing just 12 by Beloit. The Red Hawks had 10 aces to Beloit's three, and had four blocks to Beloit's one. Ripon also had team statistical advantages in assists (34-12) and digs (49-39) en route to a .281 hitting percentage.

Ripon returns home for the final three matches this season. The Red Hawks kick off their final weekend of competition on Friday, November 8 with a 7 p.m. match against Lawrence.
