RIPON, Wisconsin – For the second time in the past month,
Jenny Cortes of the Ripon women's track and field program has been named the Midwest Conference Track Performer of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
Cortes was dominant in the mile on Saturday in Ripon's own Dick Hendricks Invite. The sophomore not only took first place – over 13 seconds ahead of the next finisher – but set a new school record by almost three seconds with a time of 5:08.11. The previous program mark, set by Michelle Matter, had stood since 2013.
This is the second career weekly award for Cortes and the fourth honor for Ripon this season after
Jacoby Cefalu and Cortes swept the MWC Performer of the Week awards on January 16 while
Bridget Finn received recognition two weeks later.
Ripon returns to action on Friday, February 16 in La Crosse for the UW-La Crosse Invite at 3 p.m.
