LA CROSSE, Wisconsin – The Ripon track and field programs wrapped up the regular season on Friday night, competing in the Indoor Eagle Open on the campus of UW-La Crosse inside the UWL Fieldhouse.
Ripon saved its best for last as the men's 4x400 foursome of
Jacob Davies,
Jacob Jumbeck,
Dameco Walker and
Rainier Villanueva set a new school record with a time of 3:24.66. Their time was a hair quicker than the previous program mark of 3:25.14 set in 2016 by Nick Luedke, Jacob Baus, Mikey Allen and Ian Hall.
Both teams came in sixth and only trailed programs ranked by the USTFCCCA regionally: Wartburg (#1 men, #3 women) and Loras (#2 men, #4 women) in the Midwest Region along with UW-La Crosse (#1 men, #1 women), UW-Whitewater (#5 men, #8 women) and UW-Stout (#7 men, #4 women) in the North Region.
All night, Ripon was successful in distance events on the women's side.
Gabby Allard netted a third-place finish in the 3000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 10:44.56.
Jenny Cortes continued her long-distance prowess in the 800, also placing third in 2:20.46. In the mile, a pair of Red Hawks earned top 10 finishes:
Mikayla Flyte took fourth with a time of 5:13.40 and her teammate
Alison Denamur was seventh in 5:16.71.
Logan Vander Galien was dominant in the 60-meter dash; the junior took third in the prelims with a time of 7.03 and sixth in the finals with a 7.01 mark.
Jacoby Cefalu placed second in the 60-meter prelims (6.93) but did not compete in the finals. Also, Villanueva earned a sixth-place finish in the mile with a time of 4:20.10. Near the end of the meet,
Matt Seeber claimed ninth in the 3,000-meter run, clocking in at 8:46.40.
To close out the running portion of the meet on the women's side, the 4x400 foursome of Finn, Cortes,
Madylyn Woyak and
Heleyna Weiss placed sixth in 4:11.51.
Like previous meets in the indoor season, Ripon had standout performances in field events as well. In the men's long jump, Walker claimed third place with a 7.06m performance.
Bridget Finn recorded a 1.58m distance in a competitive high jump to take fifth, while
Sidney Hoffa took seventh in the long jump with a 5.24m showing. Additionally,
Kalyn Otzelberger took fourth in the women's shot put (12.73m) as
Noah Hanson also cracked the top 10 in the men's shot put (10th place, 12.78m).

Ripon turns its attention to the Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships inside the friendly confines of the Willmore Center on Friday and Saturday (February 23-24).
