RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon men's tennis program picked up its first win of the season on Sunday, defeating Concordia University Chicago 8-1 inside the Willmore Center.
The win is the first career victory on the men's side for head coach
Sam Brickley.
Ripon (1-10) jumped on CUC (0-3) early in doubles.
Clayton Counts and
Caleb Sippel teamed up for an 8-3 win on the top court, while
Jaden Francis and
Austin Stevens made quick work of the Cougars on court two in an 8-1 win.
Ty Rondestvedt and
Corey Mooney finished off doubles with an 8-2 win on court three and the Red Hawks led 3-0 heading into singles.
Sippel carried the momentum into singles, where he was a 6-0, 6-1 winner on the top court. Stevens clinched the match soon after with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court two. The Cougars earned their first win of the day on court three but Counts responded on the fourth line with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Francis and Mooney closed out the afternoon with straight set wins on courts five and six by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.
NEXT UP: Ripon returns to action on Saturday (March 2) in Owatonna, Minnesota, as the Red Hawks face off against St. Scholastica at 3 p.m. and Northwestern (Minn.) at 6:30 p.m.
