Red Hawks Run at NCAA Final Qualifier; Four School Records Broken

RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon track and field programs competed in their final home meet of the season this weekend, running at the NCAA Final Qualifier + Multi inside the Willmore Center on Friday and Saturday.

Ripon's best performances of the weekend came in the form of four school records: Dameco Walker in the long jump, Jacoby Cefalu in the 200-meter dash, Jenny Cortes in the 800-meter run and the men's distance medley relay team of Christian Kuwaye, Rainier Villanueva, Sam Trzebiatowski and Jacob Jumbeck.

Walker's jump of 15.00m in the triple jump surpassed the previous school record, also set by the senior, which stood since last season. He jumped more than a foot farther in Saturday's meet for the new program benchmark. Additionally, his jump is the third-best triple jump in Division III this season thus far.

Cefalu also surpassed his own school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.07, a mark that the junior set earlier this season. He continues to hold individual program records in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.

The DMR foursome smashed the previous school record of 10:20.86 with a 10:12.86 showing on Saturday. Kuwaye, Jumbeck and Villanueva were all on the record-setting quartet from 2023.

Over in La Crosse at the Eagles' NCAA Final Qualifier, Cortes crushed her own school record in the 800 with a time of 2:14.06. She broke the previous record of 2:17.36 which she set earlier this season.

Walker will likely receive a spot in next week's NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in both the long jump and triple jump, while Cefalu will be near the cut line for the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Cortes will also be near the cut line in the women's 800-meter run.
