RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon women's tennis program lost a close 5-4 match to Dubuque on Wednesday afternoon inside the Willmore Center for the Red Hawks' final home match of the season.
Ripon (2-16) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead before starting play as Dubuque (3-12) had to forfeit a court on singles and doubles due to a lack of player availability.
Doubles was an even split as each team secured a point. The Spartans opened with a strong showing on court one, while
Andreanna Wilke and
Jessica Griepentrog got Ripon on the board soon after with an 8-6 win on court two.
Alexiss Baker, in her final home match as a Red Hawk, won 6-4, 6-3 on court five to highlight singles play for Ripon.
Dubuque made a charge in singles play by taking three of the first five sets. Needing four singles wins, the Spartans got straight-set wins on courts one, two and four while collecting a third-set win on court three to earn the overall match victory.
NEXT UP: Ripon's final matches of the season come on Friday (April 19) against Wisconsin Lutheran and Alverno in Milwaukee. The times of the matches have not yet been determined.
