RIPON, Wisconsin – Bonnie Jensen of the Ripon women's basketball program has been selected to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's 21st annual "So You Want To Be A Coach" program.
The Muskego, Wisconsin native is one of just 12 Division III players to be selected in a class of 55 players – 29 of which compete at the Division I level.
"We are excited for Bonnie and the opportunity she's taking advantage of to continue to influence the game and the next generation of college players," head coach
Lauren Busalacchi said. "After an outstanding career for our program, we look forward to following Bonnie's transition into coaching. Her diligent work ethic, strong character, and dynamic ability to lead all make her a terrific person for student-athletes to follow and learn from!"
Jensen, a four-time All-Midwest Conference second-team performer, became the 11th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, doing so on January 6, 2024 in the win at Illinois College. A four-time Midwest Conference champion and a two-time NCAA Tournament participant, Jensen's name is littered throughout the Ripon record books. She is eighth in career points (1,202), third in career rebounds (710), tied for sixth in career assists (252) and tied for tenth in career double-doubles (seven).
Jensen will participate in a two-day workshop on April 4 and 5 during the WBCA Convention in Cleveland, the site of the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Final Four. "So" participants will learn about the administrative side of coaching, recruiting, how to get hired, skill development, the importance of knowing the rules, and how to balance work and life.
Qualified candidates must have exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution or have graduated within the past year and must be nominated by their WBCA-member head coach. Each participant is selected based on her academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional resume and a written recommendation from their head coach.
