RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon baseball program competed against one of the best teams in the country on Tuesday, falling to #6 UW-Whitewater 18-7 in seven innings at Francis Field.
UW-Whitewater (28-5) used a four-run first inning to jump on Ripon (9-18) early, keeping the Red Hawks at bay throughout the afternoon. Ripon responded in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by
Nick Tenny, but the Red Hawks left the bases loaded in the inning.
UWW got the run right back in the top of the second and plated three more in the third to lead 8-1 after two and a half innings. However, the Red Hawks scored two in the bottom of the third – a bases-loaded passed ball brought home the second run of the day, while an RBI groundout by
Alex Pankratz drew Ripon within 8-3.
With the Red Hawks trailing 18-3, Ripon scored four in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded, back-to-back walks by
