RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon men's soccer program got goals from
Finley Manning,
Andre Robertson and
Seth Schroeder to breeze past Marian 3-0 on Sunday night at Hopp Stadium in the inaugural Highway 23 Derby.
The three goals for Ripon (1-1) are its most since October 17, 2023 when the Red Hawks scored five against Maranatha Baptist.
Manning scored the game-winning goal less than seven minutes into the game. The junior raced down the field after a terrific pass from
Gustavo Herrera, connecting in the top left part of the net to open the scoring.
The Red Hawks weren't done in the first half. After a foul just outside the box in the 27th minute, Robertson converted a close free kick into the top right part of the goal to double Ripon's lead before the break.
Continuing to control the game over Marian (1-1), the Red Hawks applied pressure in the offensive zone all night. In the 63rd minute, Schroeder headed in a beautiful feed from Herrera on a corner kick set piece to effectively put the game away. Schroeder's goal is the first of his collegiate career in his second career game.
Ripon outshot the Sabres 13-4 and did not concede a single shot on goal all night.
Nick Bellisle, Manning and
Tim Geocaris all had two shots apiece as the Red Hawks used a balanced attack of seven shots in the first half and six in the second. All told, 10 Red Hawks recorded at least one shot.
