RIPON, Wisconsin – For the first time in over 20 seasons, the Ripon men's soccer program has won five consecutive games after the Red Hawks defeated Martin Luther 7-1 on Saturday afternoon at Prairie Field.
In another sparkling offensive display, Ripon (5-1) got goals from seven different players, including four freshmen – and two more goals from
Andre Robertson, who leads the Midwest Conference with six, and
Seth Schroeder, who has scored in each of his last five contests.
Ripon wasted no time on Saturday, scoring six minutes in.
Ian Martinez netted the first goal of his collegiate career, assisted by
Thomas Geocaris. Just four minutes later, fellow freshman
Gustavo Herrera scored his third of the season on a feed from
Matthew Hegge.
Ripon scored twice more in the half – Robertson found the back of the net in the 22nd minute unassisted, and Schroeder followed two minutes later on a pass by
Owen Kramar.
Martin Luther (0-4-1) scored once early in the second half, but Ripon continued to push the gas in the second stanza.
Jackson Zielinski scored the first goal of his career from Hegge in the 60th minute, and
Tim Geocaris connected in the 67th minute for his first of the season from Zielinski.
To round out the scoring,
Logan Cooper found the back of the net in the 76th minute with the assist going to
Austin Stevens.
Ripon had 24 total shots – 13 on goal – and only surrendered one total shot as MLC went without a shot in the first half. Herrera had a game-high four shots, while both Geocaris brothers had three each. Schroeder,
Eli Dietzel, Robertson and
Emilio Ortiz all had multi-shot games.
Three goalkeepers saw action for Ripon:
