Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Five Goal First Half Powers Red Hawks to Sixth Consecutive Win

RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon men's soccer program rode five goals in the first 38 minutes of the game to roll past UW-Stout 6-0 on Wednesday night at Hopp Stadium.

Seth Schroeder scored twice – his sixth and seventh goals of the season – to retake the Midwest Conference lead in goals, while Gustavo Herrera also scored twice as Ripon (6-1) blew Wednesday's game open early against Stout (2-6).

Herrera got things going early, finding the back of the net past the far post in the 11th minute. It took him just 10 minutes to score again, his fifth of the season, to double Ripon's lead.

Nick Bellisle joined the party in the 31st minute – after a combo of passes by Eric Staszak and Jackson Zielinski, Bellisle found the back of the net for his first goal of the season and Ripon added to its advantage. Schroeder then scored five minutes later with another assist by Zielinski, and added a second goal two minutes after that on assists by Eli Dietzel and Bellisle. The freshman now has seven goals in his last six games and is tied for fifth in all of Division III in total goals.

Through seven games this season, Ripon boasts three players with five or more goals: Schroeder has seven, Andre Robertson has six and Herrera has five.

Three minutes into the second half, Finley Manning tallied his third goal of the season for good measure on an assist by Thomas Geocaris. From there, the outcome was in hand and Ripon cruised to yet another non-conference victory.

The Red Hawks outshot Stout 24-5 overall, and had 10 shots on goal compared to the Blue Devils' three. Manning, Herrera, Jesse Ward and Schroeder all led Ripon with three shots apiece, while Zielinski tacked on two. In total, 15 Red Hawks recorded a shot in the match.

Drew Seyfer and Sam Jahnke each played 45 minutes in goal – Seyfer made two saves and Jahnke recorded one.

UP NEXT: Ripon now embarks on a four-game road trip, beginning with a 2 p.m. match at Eureka on Saturday, September 21.
