Men's Soccer Wins Again, Shuts Out Maranatha Baptist

WATERTOWN, Wisconsin – The Ripon men's soccer program was sharp in its final tune-up before Midwest Conference play this upcoming weekend, routing Maranatha Baptist 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

Ripon (8-1) has now scored at least four goals in each of the last six games. The Red Hawks also produced their fifth clean sheet of the young 2024 season.

Ripon struck first once again on Tuesday, doing so in the 16th minute. Seth Schroeder kicked a bouncing ball to Eli Dietzel, who passed it back to the freshman. Schroeder then found the back of the net for the eighth time this season.

Moments later in the 24th minute, Finley Manning had a shot that was initially saved by Maranatha Baptist (1-4-2), but Andre Robertson cleaned up the attempt, scoring his eighth of the season.

The third member of Ripon's consistent goal-scoring trio in 2024 – Gustavo Herrera, the reigning Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week – tallied his seventh goal of the season in the 32nd minute following an impressive display of ball-handling by Emilio Ortiz as Ripon took a 3-0 lead into half.

Schroeder wasn't done – he then scored a penalty kick goal in the 51st minute for his ninth goal of the season.

Robertson matched Schroeder 20 minutes later, scoring on an assist by Matthew Klopp in the 71st minute to bring his season total to nine as well.

In the process, Schroeder and Robertson now stand in 10th place in the Ripon record books for single-season goals. The pair became the first Ripon men's soccer players to score nine goals in a season since Paul Karls scored 10 in 2015.

Additionally, Schroeder and Robertson are now tied for fifth in Division III for total goals scored.

Jesse Ward put the finishing touches on the victory, scoring his second goal of the season – unassisted – in the 88th minute.

Ripon outshot the Sabercats 21-2 overall and 17-2 in shots on goal. The Red Hawks did not concede a shot in the second half.

Schroeder led Ripon with five total shots – all on goal – while Ward had four (all on goal) and Robertson notched three. In goal, Christian Hernandez played the first half and made two saves, while Drew Seyfer played the second stanza and was not forced to make a stop.

UP NEXT: Ripon opens Midwest Conference play at Illinois College on Saturday, September 28 with an 11 a.m. kickoff.
