FOND DU LAC, Wisconsin – Viviana Alba of the Ripon women's soccer program scored the first goal of her collegiate career on Friday night, but the Ripon women's soccer program gave up a pair of second-half goals and fell 2-1 at Marian at Smith Field.
Alba's goal – coming less than seven minutes into the game – was scored from the middle of the box for the freshman's first collegiate point, and the Red Hawks' second goal of 2024.
Alyssa Klementzos assisted on the goal; the sophomore has now scored or assisted on both Ripon goals this season.
Marian (2-1) led Ripon (0-3-1) 7-6 in shots in the first half, but each team recorded just three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes as the Red Hawks headed into the locker room with a 1-0 advantage.
It didn't take long for the Sabres to tie the match up in the second half. In the 50th minute, Isabella Goodson took a pass and had a free run to the goal, scoring near the inside post and knotting things up at one apiece.
Marian controlled the game offensively for the remainder of the match, and in the 68th minute, Baylee Alvarado perfectly placed a ball in the top left part of the goal for the go-ahead (and game-winning) score. The Sabres have now scored two goals in each of their first three games this season.
Ripon had a terrific chance to tie the game off of a corner kick with roughly seven minutes left in the match, but a shot by
Alex Siudzinski was thwarted away by the Marian goalie.
Siudzinski, Klementzos and
Cielo Gutierrez all had two shots apiece for Ripon. In addition to Alba,
Martina Palazzolo,
Sarah Klopp and
Jessi Griepentrog also recorded a shot.
Marian had a 17-10 advantage in shots over the Red Hawks, but shots on goal were just 9-7 in favor of the hosts.
Britt Hable played the first 45 minutes in goal and tallied three saves.
Andreanna Wilke made four saves in the second half to put her over 500 career saves, becoming just the fifth player in Midwest Conference women's soccer history to record at least 500 career saves.
