RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon track and field programs returned from a 42-day layoff on Saturday afternoon, opening the spring semester at the Red Hawks' annual Alumni Dual with Beloit inside the Willmore Center.
Highlighting the afternoon was
Jacoby Cefalu, who broke not one but two of his own school records previously set last season. First, he eclipsed his 60-meter dash record with a first-place time of 6.87 on Saturday. Cefalu's blazing performance is now the ninth-fastest 60-meter dash time in all of Division III this season and tied for the fastest 60-time in the Midwest Conference. Then, he won the 200-meter dash in 21.83, good for the third-fastest 200 time in DIII this season – and second-fastest in the MWC.
Cefalu wasn't the only fast Red Hawk in the 60-meter dash, as his teammate
Logan Vander Galien came in second with a time of 7.15. In the final official running event of the day, the 3000-meter run,
Rainier Villanueva clocked in at 8:57.55 to garner second-place accolades.
The Red Hawk women found success in the 60-meter dash too, as
Sidney Hoffa (8.49) and
Chloe Studinski (8.76) went 1-2 in that event. The women's 200-meter dash also saw two Red Hawks cross the finish line in consecutive order, as
Madylyn Woyak (28.30) and Hoffa (28.55) paced the field of seven runners.
Kiki Sherman recorded a time of 5:37.24 for a second-place finish in the women's mile, while
Jenny Cortes (10:32.21) and
Gabby Allard (10:45.26) led the 3000-meter run field.
In the men's high jump,
Ben Fisher was his customary dominant self. The graduate student won the event with a jump of 1.96m – while
Kyan Lins took second (1.86m). Fisher also took second in the long jump with a jump of 6.59m.
Braedy Picard was a standout in the men's weight throw, taking second with a 12.43m throw, and Ripon went 1-2 in the pole vault with
Sean Rath and
Dorian Phillips both recording marks of 3.19m. Picard also took second in the shot put (12.91m), while
Dario Vasquez turned in the second-best triple jump performance (12.20m).
On the women's side, Hoffa won the long jump with a top jump of 5.14m as the sophomore was the only person to jump over five meters, though
Nicole Arnhold placed second (4.78m). Arnhold later won the triple jump with a mark of 10.04m. Studinski added to her strong running performance with a first-place, 1.56m showing in the high jump. Freshman
Hannah Michaels notched a second-place performance in the shot put with a throw of 10.16m.
