Meinholz Reaches 1,000 Career Points in Emphatic Win Over Grinnell

RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon men's basketball program snapped a three-game losing streak to Grinnell on Saturday afternoon, beating the first-place Pioneers for the first time in over two years with a wire-to-wire, 102-85 victory inside Weiske Gymnasium.

In the win, senior Luke Meinholz became the 35th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, and the first since Ryan Steffes and Jaylen Mahone in 2023. He eclipsed the mark with his sixth point of the game on a free throw late in the first half.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Ripon got the offense going in a hurry – after taking a 4-3 lead, the Red Hawks went on a 15-3 run to go up 19-6 and force a Grinnell timeout nearly nine minutes into the game. Five consecutive points brought the Pioneers within five at 21-16, but Ripon followed with a 12-0 spurt, grabbing a 17-point advantage with five and a half minutes left. The Red Hawks held a steady lead from there, though Grinnell would not go away – a 17-point deficit was whittled down to five at the half (51-46) following an onslaught of triples by Kai Te Huki. The Pioneer made seven threes in the first 20 minutes (and six in the final five and a half minutes) to keep Grinnell within striking distance at intermission.

Ripon pushed its lead back to nine at 65-56 four minutes into half two following a triple by Brown. A Grinnell three made it a 67-64 Ripon lead six and a half minutes in, and a 7-0 Grinnell spurt tied the game at 71 with 11:08 remaining. From there, it was all Ripon as the Red Hawks ended the game on a 31-14 run. Tied at 71, the Red Hawks scored the next nine points and the Pioneers never got closer than six the rest of the way. Ripon's advantage was double digits for the final four minutes, and the Red Hawks led by as many as 22 with a minute to go en route to the important conference victory.
