RIPON, Wis. -- Behind a dominant start and a strong defensive effort, the Ripon College men's soccer team earned a 2–0 shutout win over Monmouth College on Saturday afternoon in Midwest Conference play.
Sophomore forward Seth Schroeder (Iron Ridge, Wis., Winnebago Lutheran Academy) continued his impressive season, scoring both of Ripon's goals within the opening 15 minutes. Schroeder opened the scoring in the 11th minute, then doubled the lead less than two minutes later off an assist from junior Thomas Geocaris (Green Bay, Wis., Notre Dame Academy), giving the Red Hawks early control.
Ripon outshot Monmouth 18-15, including 11-6 in the second half, and held a commanding 12-5 advantage in corner kicks. The Red Hawks' defense remained sharp throughout, limiting quality chances and maintaining composure despite pressure from the Fighting Scots.
Junior goalkeeper Drew Seyfer (Thiensville, Wis., Homestead HS) was outstanding between the posts, recording 10 saves en route to his third clean sheet of the season.
With the win, Ripon improves to 8-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in MWC play, while Monmouth falls to 1-10-2 (1-5 MWC). The Red Hawks return to action on Friday, Oct 25, when they host Beloit College at 7:30 pm in another conference matchup.
