GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Ripon College men's soccer team fell 4-1 on the road Saturday afternoon against Grinnell College in Midwest Conference play.
Grinnell opened the scoring early in the sixth minute and carried a 1-0 lead into halftime despite a solid defensive effort from the Red Hawks. Ripon found more rhythm in the second half, creating several scoring chances and earning five corner kicks, but a series of late goals from the Pioneers in the 77th and 88th minutes proved too much to overcome.
Ripon's lone goal came in the 89th minute when sophomore forward
Seth Schroeder (Iron Ridge, Wis., Winnebago Lutheran Academy)Â converted a penalty kick to put the Red Hawks on the board. Freshman
Brodie Hoth (Fleming Island, Fla., Fleming Island HS) added two shots on goal, while senior
Andre Robertson (O'Fallon, Ill., O'Fallon Township HS) contributed another strong attempt.Â
The match saw plenty of physical play, featuring seven yellow cards and three red cards between the two sides. Ripon's cautions were issued to freshman
Dylan Alfaro (Chula Vista, Cali., Otay Ranch HS), freshman
Will Rockwell (Millstadt, Ill., Belleville West HS), sophomore
Brendan Smith (St. Jacob, Ill., Triad HS), and freshman
Isaiah Martinez (Las Vegas, Nev., Palo Verde HS), while freshman
Caleb Pankiewicz (Plainfield, Ill., Oswego East HS)Â was sent off late in the contest.
Junior goalkeeper
Drew Seyfer (Thiensville, Wis., Homestead HS) finished with two saves in 90 minutes of action. Ripon totaled seven shots, including four on goal, while Grinnell recorded 12 total shots with sex on target.Â
With the result, the Red Hawks move to 6-4-1 overall and 1-2 in Midwest Conference play. Ripon will look to rebound when they return home to Hopp Stadium on Tuesday, Oct 7, to take on Maranatha Baptist at 7:30 pm.Â
