RIPON, Wisconsin – After producing one of the top 40 mile times in the country,
Jenny Cortes of the Ripon women's track and field program has been named the Midwest Conference Track Performer of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
Cortes shattered her own school record in the mile on Saturday at Ripon's Dick Hendricks Invite. The junior's new time of 5:02.70 was nearly six seconds faster than her previous record set last year. She took first in the event against 15 other runners, including two from Division I.
This is the third career weekly indoor award for Cortes and the first honor for Ripon women's track and field this season.
Ripon heads to Oshkosh on Saturday, February 22 for the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge beginning at 10 a.m.
