Softball Drops Doubleheader to #23 UWSP on Opening Day

RHINELANDER, Wisconsin – The Ripon softball program opened its 2025 season on Thursday, falling 8-0 (5 innings) and 5-0 to #23 UW-Stevens Point inside the Hodag Dome.

UWSP (5-1) got on the board early in game one. After Ripon (0-2) starter Ashlynn Donahue retired the first two Pointers, a double and a home run gave Stevens Point a 2-0 lead. UWSP added one more in the second and led 3-0 after two complete.

The opposition plated four more in the third to more than double its lead.

Ripon had a pair of baserunners in the fourth, and put a runner on third in the fifth, but was unable to scratch anything across.

Stevens Point scored the game-winning run on a two-out double in the fifth to claim game one.

Making her first career start, Donahue took the game one loss. She pitched 2.2 innings, surrendering seven hits, seven runs (three earned) and one walk across 56 pitches. Brooklyn Cooper pitched two innings in relief, giving up two hits and one earned run.

The Red Hawks were held hitless in game one, though Emily Kasuboski and Karissa Jenz each drew walks while Jenz also had a stolen base.

In game two, the Pointers used a two-out single to strike first in the opening inning. They then added one run in the second and two in the third to lead 4-0 after three innings.

UWSP tacked on one more in the fifth, though the Red Hawks stranded a runner at third to end the inning. Ripon's bats could not get going the rest of the way as the Pointers took game two 5-0.

Jenz was 1-for-2 with a walk offensively, while Maddie Heisler also recorded a single. Cooper got the start and the loss on the mound, tossing two innings and giving up six hits to go along with four runs (all earned). Alayna Sadowska pitched four innings in relief, striking out three and giving up one hit with one earned run.
