RIPON, Wisconsin – Playing back-to-back games for the second consecutive day, the Ripon softball program fell 3-0 and 11-0 (five innings) to Marian on Thursday afternoon at Hopp Stadium.
After a scoreless first inning between the teams in game one, Ripon (2-14) fell behind in the second as Marian (5-7) pulled in front with a run on an RBI single, coupled with a Red Hawk error. The Red Hawks placed two runners on base in both the second and third innings, but were unable to capitalize.
The Sabres scored two more runs in the sixth on an RBI double, though pitcher
Alayna Sadowska stranded a runner on second to end the frame. Ripon was unable to push any runs across and dropped game one 3-0.
Ripon left nine runners on base, but five different Red Hawks recorded a hit.
Emily Kasuboski led the charge offensively, going 2-for-3.
Ashlyn Schultz,
Maddie Heisler, Sadowska and
Kayla Cruz also recorded hits as well.
Sadowska took the loss in the circle. She went six innings, surrendering eight hits and three runs (one earned). She also struck out five.
In a fast-moving game two, Marian took the early lead with four runs in the second inning. The Sabres then scored three more in the fourth on a pair of RBI singles, pushing their advantage to 7-0.
Ripon put two runners on base in the bottom of the fourth, but a strikeout ended the threat. Then, a four-run fifth for Marian sealed the visitor's victory. Sadowska tripled to lead off the fifth for her second triple in as many days, but the next three Red Hawks were retired to end the game.
Cruz and
Sydney Swanson also recorded hits in game two for Ripon.
On the mound,
Brooklyn Cooper took the loss. She pitched the first three innings, allowing five hits and four earned runs.
NEXT UP: Ripon begins Midwest Conference play with a doubleheader at Knox on Saturday, April 5. First pitch is set for noon. The doubleheader opens a six-game road stretch for the Red Hawks.
