Offense, Pitching Spur Red Hawks Past Marian

RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon baseball program scored three runs each in two different innings and allowed just four total hits in a 7-2 win over Marian on Thursday afternoon at Francis Field.

After a fast-moving and scoreless first inning, Ripon (13-18) struck first in the bottom of the second. With runners on first and second, a one-out single by Brock Peterson brought home Alex Pankratz for the first run of the game. Two batters later, Jason Clark walked a run in with the bases loaded. The next at-bat, Jack Anderson scored Peterson on a sacrifice fly and quickly, the lead was 3-0.

Marian (15-18) got a run back on an attempted double steal in the third, but Ripon starter Matt Miller was excellent in three innings. He did not allow a hit and had a pair of three-up, three-down innings.

The lead was cut in half in the fifth, as a two-out Ripon error plated Marian's second and final run of the day. However, Ripon scored three more times in the fifth on three consecutive at-bats to go up 6-2. Eli DiCarlo doubled home Gabriel Zielinski, while Clark followed with an RBI single. Then, Anderson produced another sacrifice fly as DiCarlo came home.

Ripon's final run of the day scored in the seventh as Clark crossed home on a two-out passed ball. Orion Rieden tossed a scoreless ninth and Ripon headed into a critical weekend of Midwest Conference play with a non-conference win.

Clark had a three-hit day, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, a walk and a run scored. Three other Red Hawks had multi-hit outings: Pankratz (2x4, run), Zielinski (2x2, 2 runs, walk) and Peterson (2x4, RBI, 2 runs). Ripon was patient at the plate, drawing seven walks.

Brett Tetzlaff got the win on the mound. He went four complete innings, allowing just two hits and one run – though it was unearned. Matthew Stuczynski and Rieden tossed a combined two innings, allowing a total of two hits with no runs.

NEXT UP: Ripon heads to Grinnell for a three-game series against the Pioneers on Saturday and Sunday (April 26-27).
