Bats Silenced by Lawrence on Senior Day

RIPON, Wisconsin – On a day where the Ripon softball program celebrated senior Maddie Hablewitz, the Red Hawks fell 10-2 and 8-0 in six innings to Lawrence at Tracy Field.

After a pair of scoreless innings in game one, Lawrence (16-16, 9-3 MWC) struck first with two runs in the top of the third. However, Ripon (9-21, 6-6 MWC) countered with two runs of its own to tie the game. A run-scoring triple by Maddie Heisler and an RBI single by Hablewitz knotted the score in the early going.

However, things unraveled in the top of the fourth. The Vikings scored six runs on six hits – taking advantage of two Ripon errors as well – to pull in front 8-2. Two more runs crossed home for the Vikings in the sixth as the visitors got an RBI double and an RBI single to extend their lead. The Red Hawks had a runner on third in the bottom half of the inning, but a strikeout ended the game.

Ashlyn Schultz had two of Ripon's seven hits, going 2-for-3. Heisler (1x3, RBI, run), Hablewitz (1x3, RBI), Alayna Sadowska (1x1), Brooklyn Cooper (1x2) and Nadiyah Huizar (1x2, run) also had base hits.

Sadowska took the loss in the circle, pitching 3+ innings. She allowed four hits and four earned runs. Cooper pitched three innings in relief, giving up eight hits and four earned runs.

Similar to game one, the teams were deadlocked at zero through two innings of game two. Similar to game one, the Vikings put up a crooked number in the third. Five runs on six hits gave the visitors the 5-0 lead.

Limited to just two hits through the first four innings, Ripon surrendered two more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth as the Vikings took an 8-0 advantage. The Red Hawks loaded the bases in both the fifth and sixth innings, but were unable to cash in and dropped the second game of the doubleheader.

Four Red Hawks accounted for Ripon's five hits in game two: Karissa Jenz (1x3), Hablewitz (1x2), Schultz (1x3) and Cooper (2x3). Cooper took the loss in the circle, pitching all six innings. She allowed 14 hits and six earned runs.

NEXT UP: Ripon visits Beloit on Sunday, April 27 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
