Red Hawks Finish Season with Sweep of Mount Mary

RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon softball program wrapped up its 2025 season on Tuesday afternoon on a high note, defeating Mount Mary 12-2 (5 innings) and 7-2 at Tracy Field.

Ripon (14-24) fell behind early in game one as Mount Mary (10-25) scored two times in the opening half inning. However, the Red Hawks punched back with a five-run first inning. Karissa Jenz singled on a bunt and Maddie Heisler came around to score before a bases-clearing triple by Jayden Markus gave the hosts a 4-2 lead. The next at-bat, Brooklyn Cooper grounded out to bring her home and Ripon led 5-2.

Neither team scored until the fourth, when Ripon scored seven more times. Jenz reached on an error before Maddie Hablewitz singled home Heisler. Arianna Alirez joined the party with a two-run single, and Cooper helped her own cause with a run-scoring single. To follow Cooper, Kayla Cruz doubled home a pair as Ripon led by 10 with three outs to get.

Cooper worked around a scoreless fifth to pick up the complete game win on the mound. Across 65 pitches, she allowed just four hits and one earned run.

Offensively, Jenz (2x3, 2 runs) and Markus (2x3, 3 RBI, run) led the Red Hawks while eight players accounted for Ripon's 10 hits.

In game two, Mount Mary again scored two runs in the opening frame. However, Ripon countered with three in the first on one play – a sacrifice fly by Maddie Hablewitz and two Blue Angel errors gave Ripon the 3-2 lead. Then, a bases-loaded walk by Nadiyah Huizar doubled the advantage.

Leading 4-2 in the third, an attempted double steal plated Sydney Swanson. Then, Ashlyn Schultz tripled with two outs as the lead was extended to 6-2.

The Blue Angels put the first two runners on in the fourth, but Alayna Sadowska got a strikeout and two lineouts to escape unscathed.

Schultz produced another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly for Ripon's final run of the season. Ashlynn Donahue was effective in relief in the circle, tossing two scoreless innings to finish out the win.

Schultz (2x2, 2 RBI, run) and Huizar (2x2, RBI, run) accounted for half of Ripon's hits.

Sadowska got the win on the mound, throwing five complete innings. She allowed five hits and two earned runs.
