WAUWATOSA, Wis. -- The Ripon College women's soccer team opened their 2025 season with a 2-1 loss, away at Wisconsin Luthan College's, Warriors Soccer Field. Senior
Cielo Gutierrez (Oshkosh, Wis., Valley Christian School) tallied the lone goal for the Red Hawks in the 46th minute, but the Warriors held on late to secure the win.
The Warriors struck first in the 19th minute to take the a 1-0 lead. The Warriors picked up three more shot attempts in the first half, saved by senior goalkeeper

Ripon came out strong in the second half, putting early pressure on the Warriors defense. The momentum paid off in the 46th minute when Gutierrez put on in the net off an assist from sophomore

(Richland, Mich., Gull Lake HS), evening the score at 1-1. The Warriors quickly responded, reclaiming the lead, with a goal in the 48th minutes, making it 2-1.Â
The Red Hawks looked to tie it up with a late shot on goal by junior
Rebecca Roszel. Despite the push from Ripon, the Warriors' defense held firm to close out the contest.
Wisconsin Lutheran had a 16-3 advantage in shots over the Red Hawks, but shots on goal were just 5-2 in favor of the hosts. The Red Hawks played physically, tallying 23 fouls to the Warriors' 12.
Ripon returns to action this Sunday, Aug 31, for a home game against Marian University at 2 p.m. at Hopp Stadium. The Sabres enter the game with a 1-0-0 record, coming off a home opener win against Augustana.
