RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College women's soccer team fell to visiting Marian University this Sunday, Aug 31, in the 2025 home opener for the program.
Ripon would face an early setback in their first game at home, with the Sabres finding the back of the net just three minutes into proceedings. Despite the quick goal, the Red Hawks would hold their own for the rest of the first, with forward
Avery Brinkman (Cheyenne, Wyo., Cheyenne East HS) putting the sole Ripon shot of the half on target, with the attempt scooped up by Marian's keeper.
Facing a 1-0 deficit at the start of the second, the Red Hawks looked to fight back, with midfielder
Rebecca Roszel (Fremont, Calif., Irvington HS) putting a saved attempt on target three minutes into the half. Despite three well defended saves from the Red Hawks, Marian would find the goal in the 56th minute, taking a 2-0 lead. Despite a handful of Red Hawks shot attempts as the half progressed, the Sabres would score three more goals before the final whistle, ending the game in a 0-5 Ripon loss.
The visitors would outshoot the Red Hawks 23-6, while putting fifteen more shots on target than the hosts. Both teams would keep play moving without interruption from the whistle, with Marian committing seven fouls to Ripon's eight.
The Red Hawks take to Hopp Stadium again on Wednesday, Sept 3, against Lakeland University. The Muskies enter the contest 0-1 this season, coming off a 0-5 loss to Lawrence.
