WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's tennis team suffered a pair of losses at this Sunday's doubleheader against Edgewood College and Carroll University. Freshman
Brandon Yanez (Ripon, Wis., Ripon HS) had the most success on the day, forcing a three setter against the Eagles at six singles.
Ripon's day began at a disadvantage, with Edgewood claiming the doubles point in three double break sets across the flights. Singles saw Ripon compete closely with the Red Hawks, with one singles
Caleb Sippel (Appleton, Wis., Appleton North HS) falling in his match by a break a set, and two singles
Corey Mooney (Greenfield, Wis., Greenfield HS) going to 5-7 in the first against his Eagle opponent. Yanez's three setter at six would see a second set comeback after dropping the first 1-6, but the Edgewood opposition would prove too much in the super tiebreak, with the match ending 5-10 against the Red Hawks.
The second match of the day would mirror the first, with the Pioneers claiming the doubles point with wins at all flights as Ripon sat their top player. While the Red Hawks would claim games in singles competition, the Pioneers would earn a sweep of the lineup, taking the one through five flights while taking a walkover at six singles.
Ripon men's tennis concludes fall play with the ITA Midwest Regional tournament Sept 26 - 28.
