RIPON, Wis. -- Despite a strong second half surge, the Ripon College women's soccer team came up short in a 3-2 loss to Coe College on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Coe struck first in the 56th minute. The Red Hawks responded with back-to-back goals to take the lead. Senior
Cielo Gutierrez (Oshkosh, Wis., Valley Christian School) scored her team-leading third goal of the season in the 73rd minute, assisted by freshman
Cecilia Strom (Ripon, Wis., Ripon HS), followed just four minutes later by a go-ahead strike from sophomore
Addison Misner (Richland, Mich., Gull Lake HS).
However, Coe answered late, tying the game in the 85th minute, before taking the lead for good less than three minutes later when the Kohawks found the back of the net again.
Senior
Britt Hable (Oshkosh, Wis., Oshkosh West HS) tallied 10 saves on the day, while Ripon held a slight edge in second-half shots, but Coe's late offense proved decisive.
Ripon College (1-4-2) returns to action Tuesday, Sept 23, on the road playing nonconference opponent Augustana College (Ill.).
