RIPON, Wis. – The Ripon College men's soccer team closed out Senior Day with a 2-1 victory over Eureka College on Sunday afternoon at Hopp Stadium. With the win, the Red Hawks improved to 5-2-1 on the season.
Eureka struck first in the 22nd minute on a converted a penalty kick to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Red Hawks responded before halftime, as senior Finley Manning (St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, Holy Heart of Mary HS) found the back of the net in the 39th minute off a feed from freshman Isaiah Martinez (Las Vegas, Nev., Palo Verde HS) to even the score at 1-1.
Ripon carried the momentum into the second half, taking the lead in the 54th minute when freshman Carmine Di Miele (Elmhurst, Ill., York Community HS) scored off an assist from freshman Brodie Hoth (Fleming Island, Fla., Fleming Island HS) to make it 2-1. Strong defense and three key saves by junior goalkeeper Drew Seyfer (Thiensville, Wis., Homestead HS) in the second half helped secure the win for the Red Hawks.
Both teams finished with 12 total shots, while Ripon held an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even at five apiece, and both sides tallied 10 fouls.
The victory topped off Senior Day as Ripon honored its program seniors.
The Red Hawks return to action on the road, next Saturday, Sept 27, at 1:30 pm as they start conference play against Illinois College.
